Elisa is one of the beautiful and brave italians of the world. I met her in London through a common friend and ever since I follow her pop dots around the city.
What I found inspiring in her is the strenght she has in pursuing her artistic dream with patience, passion and dedication and the kindness of her beautiful smile that reminds me of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz (which is actually one of her inspirations to a serie of works).
I am also a personal fan of dots, in particularly Yayoi Kusama’s ones as they leave me lost in the contrasts and with a profound sense of of peace of mind when I perceive the patience required to produce this kind of work.

This morning she was teaching dotting during a workshop for kids so I visited her with Greta for my interview and here’s what she said about her:
What’s your name? Elisa Cantarelli
Where are you from? Salsomaggiore Terme (Parma), Italy
Where do you live? In London
How old are you? 33
What are your talents? Patience, the quality that allows me to practice art and sport (basket)
What do you do for living? I am an artist and I work part time for an italian food supplier to support my work and my life in London
How did you become an artist? My parents always encouraged me to follow my passions, so I graduate at Fine Art Academy in Bologna. When I finished my studies I won some awards and galleries started to contact me, so I realized I could live out of my passion.
What does art mean for you? When I was a student I understood that art is freedom to dare, experiment and to express ourself through different kind of media. Now it is a passion that requires dedication, work and emotions.
How did you become an artist? I always loved colouring and this techinique represents me a lot as it requires patience, precision and meticulousness. It gives me balance to practice my work as it becomes a sort of meditation.
What is your media technique? I work with digital pictures and Photoshop first, then I “dot-coulour” them using a mixture of wall painting and glitter. The work become three-dimensional and the viewer is involved from a visual perception to a tacile one.
What do you want to communicate? Emotions
What inspires you? Everything that surrounds me, I am very curious and especially since I live in London my inspiration is endless. I write all my ideas in my notebook but most of the time I can’t keep up with them as they are so many!
What is your contribution to the world? Lots of dots!
What is important to you? Happiness
What is your biggest dream? To be Happy!

Elisa è una tra i bravi e coraggiosi italiani nel mondo. L’ho incontrata a Londra attraverso un’amica comune e da allora ho cominciato a seguire i suoi pois pop per la città.
Ciò che mi ispira in lei sono la forza che ha nell’inseguire il suo sogno artistico con pazienza, passione e dedizione e la gentilezza del suo bellissimo sorriso che mi ricorda di Dorothy del Mago di Oz (che forse non a caso ha ispirato anche una serie di suoi lavori).
Sono anche una fan dei puntini, specialmente quelli di Yayoi Kusama che mi fanno perdere nei loro contrasti e mi danno un senso di pace nel realizzare la pazienza necessaria per produrre questo tipo di lavoro.
Questa mattina insegnava la sua tecnica durante un workshop per bambini così sono andata a intervistarla con Greta.

Quali sono i tuoi talenti? La pazienza, una qualità che mi permette di praticare arte e sport (basket) che sono le mie passioni più grandi
Che cos’è l’arte per te? Quando studiavo ho capito che l’arte è la libertà di osare, di sperimentare e di esprimerci con mezzi molto diversi. Adesso rappresenta una passione che richiede dedizione, lavoro ed emozioni.
Come sei diventata un’artista? Ho sempre amato colorare, ho studiato all’accademia delle Belle Arti a Bologna dove ho cominciato a sperimentare una tecnica che mi rappresenta molto perché richiede pazienza, precisione e meticolosità. Mi dà molto equilibrio lavorare in questo modo perché è come praticare una meditazione.
Qual è la tua tecnica? Elaboro foto digital con l’uso di Photoshop, poi le coloro con la tecnica a puntini usando un misto di pittura murale e brillantini. Il lavoro diventa così tridimensionale e chi lo osserva è coinvolto da una percezione visiva a una tattile.
Che cosa desideri comunicare? Emozioni
Che cosa ti ispira? Tutto ciò che mi circonda, sono molto curiosa e specialmente da quando vivo a Londra la mia ispirazione non finisce mai. Scrivo tutte le mie ideee in un diario ma sono così tante che la maggior parte delle volte non reisco a realizzarle tutte!
